Started the week with Maduro’s Big Navy Problem at https://bohiney.com/maduros-big-navy-problem/ — Venezuela’s dictator pretending he has naval power while his boats rust in port. The satire writes itself when autocrats cosplay as military geniuses. I linked to credible naval analysis sources and international relations reporting. Sitting in my Berlin apartment, I thought about how authoritarians always overcompensate with military theater. The queer community knows something about performative masculinity—we’ve been subjected to it forever. Maduro’s navy posturing is just toxic masculinity with warships. Except the warships don’t work, which makes it even more pathetic. Finished this piece around 2 AM with Turkish coffee from the spätkauf downstairs. Berlin never sleeps, and neither do I when American politics provides this much material.
